On Wednesday, Pattaya’s Mayor, Khun Itipon, held a press conference, in his capacity as Chairman of the Thai Windsurfing Association, to announce the forthcoming 2012 Pattaya City Asian Windsurfing Championships which will take place on Jomtien Beach between 21st and 29th January. The event will feature three individual competitions: 2012 RSX Asian Championships, 2012 Techno 293 Asian Championships and 2012 Mistral One-Design Asian Championships.

The Car Club of Thailand will be conducting a race on Saturday 9 April which will begin at the Central World shopping complex in Bang Na in Bangkok and finish at the Central Festival Pattaya Beach shopping complex. It is expected about 300 vehicles will take part in the race, so it might not be a very good idea to be driving from Bangkok to Pattaya on Saturday.

A press conference at City Hall on Monday announced details of the up-coming and annual Longboat Racing competition to be held at Mabrachan Reservoir over the weekend of the 20th and 21st of November. This will be the 10th year of the Pattaya Longboat Racing competition with the Princess Sirindhorn Trophy as the main incentive, although the 500,000 baht in prize money might also be of some interest.

One, if not the most popular of car racing events in Thailand, the Bangsaen Thailand Speed Festival, will celebrate its fourth anniversary this year. Over 300 drivers will be competing and more than 100,000 spectators are expected to attend.
The Bangsaen Thailand Speed Festival 2010, the motor racing event of the year, will be held from 10 – 14 November at Bangsaen Beach, Laemthane, Khaosammuk. The press conference held at the Multipurpose Hall, Saen Suk Municipality, where this announcement was made was hosted by three dignitaries of the Khunpluem family: Messrs. Sonthaya, Witthaya and Narongchai. The three Khunpluems were representing three of the event sponsors, namely the Royal Automobile Association of Thailand, Chonburi Provincial Administration Organization, and Saen Suk Municipality, respectively. Other sponsors include the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, TAT and the Sports Authority of Thailand.
This will be the fourth Bangsaen Thailand Speed Festival. Initially, it took time to gain acceptance with the local populace due to the noise, the erection of steel fencing and the disruption to trade. However, as the organisation improved and a considerable amount of income was generated, the event rapidly increased in popularity and became a matter of local pride. Mr. Sonthaya stated that Bangsaen was the only locale in the vicinity where a standard length race track of 3,700 metres could be accommodated, safely.

The 2010 Rock Thai Music Fest is coming to Pattaya on 25th September, this coming Saturday. A preparation meeting chaired by Khun Ronagit, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya, was held at Pattaya City Hall on Tuesday Afternoon to discuss the details of the event which will feature a sound stage on Pattaya Beach Road, next to the Hard Rock Hotel. The event will feature some of Thailand’s top rock performers and bands including Micro, Loso, Big Ass and Bodyslam.

On Tuesday, an official meeting was held announcing the ever-popular staging of the 139th Chon Buri Buffalo Racing Festival 2010 at the Chon-Buri Provincial and District Fields.
Chaired by Chon-Buri Governor Senee Jitkasem from the Chon-Buri Meeting Hall, the organisational meeting was held to announce plans for the hosting of the 139th Chon-Buri Buffalo Racing Festival. Present at the meeting were, Chon-Buri administration officials, Chon-Buri Municipal officers and representatives from the Pattaya Tourism Authority of Thailand.
In what is being called a preliminary announcement, the popular festival will take place at the Chon-Buri provincial and district fields over the 16th-22nd of October 2010. The festival will be separated into two segments, with all merchandise stalls, games, activities, exhibits and shows to be held on one field while the main attraction of Buffalo Racing will be held separately.

Thousands of people were in Pattaya on Saturday night to observe the impressive International Fireworks Festival organised along the entire length of Pattaya Beach Road. In honour of the Thai Royal Family and Her Majesty the Queens recent 78th birthday celebrations, the event broke several records in the process of exhibiting fireworks displays from several countries over a 3km stretch of the Pattaya Bay.
Opened by Thai Defence Minister Pawit Wongsuwan and Pattaya City Mayor Ithiphol Khunpluem, the inaugural event featured an impressive array of fireworks displays from around the world including, Thailand, China, Japan, Denmark, German, America, the United Arab Emirates, Australia and Italy.
Organised in honour of the Royal Family and the recent 78th birthday of Her Majesty the Queen Sirikit, security was kept tight throughout the festival, which saw thousands of residents and tourists alike come to observe an impressive array of over 50,000 fireworks launched from the Bali Hai Pier and out in the Pattaya Bay.
Prior to the commencement of ‘illuminations,’ various Thai pop-stars and musicians performed onstage at the event, including, Rut, Dew, Sen, Keng and Kan. The opening display, from Chinese professionals, started at 8:00pm, with further displays organised throughout the night, concluding at approximately 10:00pm.

On Tuesday Morning at Pattaya City Hall, Khun Itipon, the Mayor of Pattaya, chaired a meeting to discuss an event which will be taking place on Pattaya Beach this coming weekend.
Between 5th and 6th June “Pattaya Shop on the Beach” will give an opportunity for vendors from Pattaya and Bangkok to sell items. The Bangkok vendors will come from areas such as Silom and Pradoo Nam, which were effectively closed down due to the Red Shirt Protests in April and May.
